Act and Taxation Research

In centers for the next two weeks, you will be creating a broadside for your assigned topic. You will begin by conducting research of the Act or taxation that was assigned to you.

On your broadside, you will need to have a headline and a hand-drawn picture of the event.  In 3-4 paragraphs, you will write a newspaper type article or announcement.

Remember, your audience is the great people of the Colonies. You are their reporter, or person who will be delivering the news to them about all the events that are going on in other Colonies or Great Britain. Given an Act or taxation, you will need to explain the tax to the colonists and what it means for them in their future. Please remember there are loyalists and those who will rebel against the taxes.

Here are the websites you will use for your research:

Multiplying Whole Numbers and Decimals by Whole Numbers and Decimals

Today in class, we learned my favorite model, how to use the area model to multiply decimals by decimals. This method is used when multiplying decimals that are larger than one.  Click on the link below for a refresher. Stop the video along the way if you need to.

Multiply decimals by whole numbers

In class, we are learning to multiply decimals by whole numbers. So far, we have used models  or base ten pieces. Watch this video to learn how to use base ten grids.

Plotting points on a coordinate plane

Last week, we began our unit on plotting points on a coordinate plane.  The LearnZillion video attached will refresh your memory and relate a coordinate plane to a map.  The second video shows how to use points on a graph to create pictures (similar to our 2D figures).

Skeletal Muscles and Exercises

In your groups today, your task is to research skeletal muscles and the types of exercises to strengthen them.  NASA astronauts need to exercise their muscles, even in microgravity, so they will not atrophy.  Design a machine that will enable astronauts to exercise in space.

Coordinate planes

Today, we began our geometry unit on Coordinate Planes.

Click on the link to listen to a story about Per and Radius' adventure.

Sir Cumference and the Viking's Map

We also watched a cool BrainPop video about coordinate planes.  After watching, discuss the connection between the Viking's Map and the video on coordinate planes.

Main Idea

Main idea is what a passage is mostly about.  We can also call it main topic, main focus, or main point. The brainpop video will help you to understand this point.  Be sure to take the quiz afterward.
